Katie's Story

On February 26 it was a special day for us.  My little sister was being born.  We already knew she was Down Syndrome.  She was very cute.  My mom and dad called her Rose but I called her Rosey.  She smiled a lot.  She didn’t cry that much.  Soon we got to take her home.  We still had one more hospital to go to.  Erin and I didn’t like that very much. Three days ago mom and dad told us that she had two holes in her heart.  We understood that.  But what I didn’t understand was she got them.  I still don’t understand why.  But I will though.  Soon it was time to go with her to the second hospital.  A few days later it was time for the surgery.  It was scary.  It was the first time I felt all not right, like there was an empty place in my heart.  When it looked like Rose was totally gone the doctor asked us if we wanted to say good-bye.  When I was in Rose’s room it felt like my heart was shriveling up.  After we left the room we were just thinking and praying.  Suddenly the doctor came in and said, “She made it.”  Everyone cheered.  I was so happy.  I just sat there.  I didn’t know what to do.  If I opened my mouth I would scream.  And that is how she became Miracle Baby.

Today Rose is healthy and happy.  I could tell the first time I saw her she was going to have the best time of her life when she was done with all the hospital stuff!!!
